Transnistria: the main issue between Moldova and EU
Mariana Puzderi/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ --The transnistrian issue has become a more astringent question both for the Republic of Moldova and EU.
"EU keeps responsibility for identifying a solution in the transnistrian conflict, which would insure a better life for all citizens of the RM in an integral state", Angela Merkel has declared during a bilateral meeting with the Prime-minister of RM, Vlad Filat, which took place today, May 19, at Berlin.
Vice-premier Iurie Leanca, Minister of External Affairs and European Integration, Eugen Carpov, responsible for reintegration and RM's ambassador in Germany, Aureliu Ciocoi were present at the discussions between Vlad Filat and the German chancellor.
The members of the meeting have discussed questions about present Moldo-German bilateral relations, entioning their upward development in the political, economical, investment and cultural spheres.
There was also discussed Moldavia's route, the actions undertaken in this direction and the perspectives for short and medium term development.
A separate issue was the transnistrian conflict and its recent evolution. The member parts have mentioned the necessity to sit back to negotiations in the 5+2 format unconditionally.
The German chancellor declared in her speech that Moldavia has started an ample reforming process, the ountry's economy becoming functional and that Germany is supporting RM in that way.
Angela Merkel has also stated that RM's fate is being marked by the transnistrian problem, which hasn't been solved yet.
"We understand Moldavia's situation, as Germany was also affected by split. We are very glad of the fact that negociations in the 5+2 format will be held again in June, with the participation of all parts involved",
said the chancellor.
Merkel specified that during the discussions held with the president of RF, Dmitrii Medvedev, she advocated for accelerating the process of identifying the solution which will lead to RM's reintegration.
At the same time, the German chancellor expressed sympathy and support for Moldavia, stating admire for its courageous political course.
Prime-minister Vlad Filat thanked the chancellor for her attitude towards RM, stipulating that Germany has an important role in the European course of Moldavia and its reintegration.
"We hope that negotiations in the 5+2 format will be held in June for identifying a viable solution for the transnistrian issue", said the prime-minister.
In this context, Vlad Filat recalled that European integration is the government's priority and mentioned that Moldavia is going to do its best in reaching this objective.
At the same time, this visit brought concern between political analysts from RM.
Chairman of thr European Institute of Political Studies on Moldavia, Viorel Cibotaru and the expert on the transnistrian problem, Oazu Nantoi think that Germany could influence a lot the solution identification for the transnistrian problem at dialogue level between Russia and EU, but they have different opinions regarding a possible federate scenario of the Republic. Nantoi's opinion is that the idea of Moldovia's federalization isn't favourable at all for our country, regardless any conditions it might appear.
"Today we have a concrete situation. We have the so-called Ministry of State Security at Tiraspol, which detains RM's citizens at will and declares them "traitors". On the territory of the RM there are three armies, two coins, two customs systems, we have border guards with two types of epaulets... Thus, in any federative state there is no such situation. There are not three armies on the territory of Federate Germany, three coins and there is no MGB (Ministry of Security from Tiraspol) on the German territory. If someone is willing to solve the transnistrian problem, this means that we must have a functional and viable state", declared transnistrian problem expert, Oazu Nantoi for Deutsche Welle.
