In the context of changes that have occurred in social and political life in Moldova, it is absolutely needed an analysis of the new government’s activity. In Washington was reiterated the US support, which is willing to be offered to the Republic of Moldova for the process of European integration. Although there are many complaints about the achievements of the AEI (Alliance for European Integration), it is indisputable that during this period, collaboration with the European Union has improved.
Senior Director of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), Rodger Potocki mentioned in his speech the role and the impact the events from April 2009 and election from July 2009 had in Moldova's progress towards democracy.
Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in US, Igor Munteanu has indicated the importance of reforming in order to accelerate the process of European integration and the Transnistrian conflict settlement. He reiterated the message of the U.S. vice president, Joe Biden during his diplomatic visit to Chisinau on 11 March - The United States is willing to give Moldova the necessary support for the continuation of reform processes for european integration of the country and for the settlement of Transnistrian problem.
During the discussions on human rights violations in Transnistria, Ion Manole, Executive Director of Promo-Lex, said that the Moldovan authorities are unable to interfere and monitor the rights of citizens from the left bank of Nistru river. The Vardanean case is the only case of human rights violations, it is a proof and a clear message for everybody that the moldovan authorities are unable to help in such situations.
Natalia Mozer, whose son is a victim of the authoritarian regime of Tiraspol, reported some shocking cases of people who had suffered from the regime - some prisoners who couldn’t get legal or medical assistance and, in sign of protest against injustice, have sewed their lips. Such cases were very numerous and it is not yet know how many people are suffering from the terror imposed by the authorities of Transnistria.
The discussions held in Washington is a step forward in the democratization process of Moldova and the Transnistrian conflict settlement, and these are the key factors towards European integration of Moldova.
