Transnistria regards talk resumption expectations too optimistic

The official Tiraspol appears to be fairly skeptical and reserved concerning the much-advertised forecasts of 5+2 negotiation process resumption.

Transnistrian minister of foreign affairs Vladimir Yastrebchak stated at a news conference here on Wednesday, "I would like to emphasize one thing: all this is not yet a resumption of the 5+2 negotiations. The optimistic rhetoric being heard these days from the Western colleagues and from Chisinau is something from the sphere of overrated expectations".

Yastrebchak reaffirmed that Transnistria's stance is based on the Joint Statement signed by the presidents of Russia, Transnistria and Moldova in Moscow last March 18.

"For the beginning, we proposed to focus on solving existing problems in the population's interests, and only after that - to discuss resumption of the 5+2 negotiations", said the Transnistrian foreign minister.

He said Tiraspol has already sent to Chisinau a list of such questions, and is looking forward to receiving an analogous list of proposals from Moldova.

"The Moldovan side hinted that in the nearest future it will formulate in a concise form the questions it regards as essential, and will send them to us. Chisinau officials made several statements on issues worrying them, but that was done only in general terms, as an exchange of opinions", said Vladimir Yastrebchak.

He voiced hope concrete documents should come from Chisinau upon the completion of power organs formation in Moldova. In his opinion, this process is taking somewhat long, which hinders the resumption of expert groups' work.
