Transdniestrian officials don’t expect conflict to be settled
The foreign minister of the Transdniestrian region Vladimir Yastrebchak considers that the official Chisinau’s position on the Transdniestria conflict will not change after the legislative elections in Moldova set for April 5.
"We don’t expect that the political powers in Moldova would change the attitude and basic approach to the Transdniestria dispute,” Yastrebchak said, quoted by the Transdniestrian press.
According to the official, all the political programs of the parties running in elections show that the unilateral policy will be pursued, based on the law regarding the status of the Transdniestrian settlements adopted in 2005.
At the same time, Yastrebchak stressed the importance of continuing the dialogue and cooperation with the Moldovan authorities, regardless of the election outcome. “We now focus on the socio-economic issues. Our objective is to find possibilities of taking joint actions in the socio-economic sphere, but we do not expect changes at political level,” Yastrebchak said.
