The use of Communist symbols is prohibited in Moldova
Starting from today, the use of Communist symbols, hammer and sickle, for political purposes will be fined. The decision on condemning the Communist regime and prohibiting the Communist symbols came into force.
Propaganda and usage of Communist symbols on the territory of the Republic of Moldova is punished by two types of fines: for natural persons – up to three thousand lei and for legal persons and officials – up to 10 000 lei.
Previously, the leader of the Party of Communists, Vladimir Voronin stated that the law is unconstitutional. Voronin said that he will not oblige the Communists to abandon the symbolic.
The decision on condemning the Communist regime and its symbols was taken in July by the Parliament.
