The Moldovan Supreme Judicial Council appointed new chairman of the Supreme Court
Chișinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- The new interim chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice has been appointed its vice-chairwoman, Raisa Botezatu, who is also chairwoman of the Supreme Court Criminal College.
She will ensure the interim of the Supreme Court, following the Supreme Judicial Council decision of July 6.
Recall that the former Supreme Court chairman, Ion Muruianu, was dismissed following the initiative of a judge of the Superior Council of Magistracy, and the Liberal Party leader, former moldovan Speaker, Ghimpu, after the Supreme Court had decided to send the file for Chisinau local elections annulment to the Court of Appeal in Balti (a town in the North of Moldova).
"The case of passing for examination the mandate validation of Dorin Chirtoaca (winner of Chisinau General Mayor elections, Liberal MP) to Balti Court of Appeal shows that the Supreme Court's chairman is dealing with politics, rather than justice, not working in accordance with the law, but under pressure, either financial or political.
I propose to examine the situation at the Supreme Court and dismiss its chairman, Muruianu, who should also be withdrawn the judge title, thus, I propose to examine this issue, too", Ghimpu said.
He added that a further reason, in this case would be the large number of lost files by the Republic of Moldova at the ECHR.
Muruianu was dismissed by unanimous vote of 53 deputies of the Alliance for European Integration, for proffesional failures according to the Supreme Court Law.
