The Evolution of Technologies: How Could 3-D Printing Change the World?
By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- Every day we are witness at the evolution of technologies. About twenty years ago, we could just image, for example, to have a computer at home, but now, nanotechnology is at a very high level and it continues to increase its performances. And this is not already only a dream.
Recently, in Washington, USA, it was presented a new project that promises to be a great one, which provides new ideas of changing economic, political, social and environmental sides of our world. ”The Strategic Foresight Initiative seeks to enhance understanding of the potential impact and policy implications of long-term global trends, disruptive change, and strategic shocks” say authors of the project in their report “Could 3D Printing Change the World? Technologies, Potential, and Implications of Additive Manufacturing”.
The Atlantic Council’s Strategic Foresight Initiative explains in their report how the Additive Manufacturing technology can profoundly change the world in the next decades and why it is so important for environment, economy and exporting/importing policy. In this context, we remark the energy and carbon emissions reducing, the removal of export dependence by moving the production closer to the consumer, from export countries to import countries, eliminating of supply chains and assembly lines, because AM is a simplified technology and suppose to product all in one process. There are more advantages and some security disadvantages, but the authors hope that this project will be improved and it will change the society to the better side.
Well, could this new technology change the future of the world? We hope so, because all new discoveries, especially in the scientific and technologic domain, must have the chance to change our world.
