The 9/11 Memorial needs $3 million donation to be completed

Elena Vnorovscaia / Chişinău / Moldova.ORG / -- New York still needs $3 million to complete 9/11 Memorial. It has almost been 10 years since that terrible 9/11 terrorist act.

But officials say that they still need about $3 million in funding to put the finishing touches on the memorial which is expected to be opened in just 10 weeks or so. Port Authority executives refuse to ante up more money.

Port Authority executive director Chris Ward said: “I’m going down to City Hall today to make it clear that somebody else is going to have to find the $3 million. It’s an enormously complex operation and you’re seeing construction estimates change and grow over time.”

The $3 million would pay for things like a crucial construction of a security fence, security cameras, protective scaffolding, and a visitor check-in area.

The original $13 million project has now hit $16 million but no one has stepped up to pay the remaining amount. The New York Post reports that the Port Authority has already put in about $4 million into the 9/11 memorial.

Executive Director Chris Ward says his agency should not have to fill the $3 million hole.

So at the moment $3 million is going to have to come out of somebody else's pockets.

It is also known that the Memorial will not have bathrooms when it opens (will get them later) not to notice the expected $20 admission price when the 9/11 Museum opens.

The memorial is set to open to victims' relatives and first responders on Sept. 11 this year and will then be open to the public the following day on Sept. 12.

The plaza will be lined with trees and feature a pair of 1-acre fountains in the same place where the Twin Towers once stood. The fountains will be surrounded by bronze parapets with the victim’s names.
