Suspected Moldovan riot organizer released from house arrest
Businessman Gabriel Stati was released from house arrest on July 8. The decision was taken by the court of Chisinau's Centru sector at the request of his lawyers. The millionaire will continue to be under investigation and will be barred from leaving the country for 30 days. He will be able to leave for abroad only with the prosecutor's consent. The prosecution said it would appeal against the decision in the Court of Appeal and would ask that Gabriel Stati be tried under home arrest.
Gabriel Stati was detained in Odessa, Ukraine, on 8 April and extradited to Moldova. He was charged with organizing and financing the 7 April mass riots in Chisinau in order to usurp state power.
