Survey: Canadian baby boomers use Internet
Canada's online baby boomers are using the Internet to e-mail family and friends more often than picking up the telephone, a survey indicates.
A Yahoo! Canada and Leger Marketing survey found that nearly half of 45- to 60-year olds in Canada are also using social networking sites.
The survey found that 89 percent of baby boomers in Canada say the Internet allows them to share information with loved ones. One-third said the first picture they saw of their grandchildren or a newborn relative was on their computer.
The survey also found that female boomers are more likely than male boomers -- 50 percent to 45 percent -- to use social networking Web sites.
The social connections people are making online are in no way limited to the younger demographic,
said Sara Moore, Yahoo! Canada's director of marketing. This powerful, influential group of Canadians are active participants in the best the online world has to offer.
The online survey of 2,111 Canadian baby boomers was conducted between Dec. 29 and Jan. 5. The maximum margin of error is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.
