Second progress report on association agreement talks signed in Moldova

The sixth round of talks on the Moldova-EU Association Agreement was held in Chisinau, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's (MAEIE) media and public relations service has said.

Moldova's delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman and the EU's by the chief negotiator, executive director for Europe and Central Asia of the European Service of External Action Miroslav Lajcak.

The sides concluded temporarily the negotiations on all the subjects regarding the Political Dialogue and Reforms, Cooperation in Foreign Policy and Security. The chapter Justice, Freedom and Security is also close to a provisional agreement. As for Economic Sector and Financial Cooperation, 21 chapters out of the 24 negotiated have been temporarily completed.

Both delegations reviewed the actions to be taken to prepare for the talks on the creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area.

At a day's round of talks, the Moldovan and EU delegations signed the second progress report on the negotiations for the association agreement. The document is to be presented at a meeting of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Council on 5 May 2011.

The sides agreed to hold the next round of negotiations on the Association Agreement in Brussels in June 2011.
