Sample of irresponsible declarations

By Andrei Munteanu

Vladimir Voronin does not cease astonishing the world with unexpected declarations, which cannot be perceived otherwise than irresponsible. On September 5, 2010, coming in to talk to the journalists in a press conference summoned by the communists, he stated: „We have had such cases before when Mr. Urecheanu was running for the office of General Mayor of Chisinau.

Also, he made presents for the girls some boxes of candies „Ptich’e moloko”, at 2 o’clock sent them home, … and in the morning stated he wan the elections with a 4% difference…” (see: ProTV: „Voronin crede că erorile de la CEC ar fi semne că se încearcă fraudarea referendumului”, („Voronin believes that the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) are signs of an attempt to fraud the referendum”)).

As a citizen who anxiously wants to have in this country a responsible political class, regardless of the name of the political party one represents, I am doing my best to recall to my mind if this kind of words have been ever heard before, on behalf of communists’ representatives, with regard to any voting when Mr. Urecheanu was running for Mayor’s office and… cannot recall to my mind.

More over, if we listen to Mr. Vladimir Voronin attentively one could notice that he does not say exactly what voting he means, in which year, in order to be unable determine whether they were in the government or not. For instance, in 2009 when there were disclosed, by the representatives of the current Alliance for European Integration, grave frauds committed by the communists, they were displayed in front of the cameras, in press conferences, etc., there have been submitted estimates, concrete data and samples of frauds, either shot or documented, in a way that were credible evidence.

If the communists were in opposition in case of alleged frauds committed by Mr. S. Urecheanu, certainly they wouldn’t have kept mum. We should not forget that the R.M., has also a trait which characterizes it as having had the most consolidated opposition, named CPRM, even before their massive coming to power, in 2001.

If, however the communists were governing at the central level, and may have noticed some attempts to fraud the voting in a poll for a Local Government, what should we think – why did they keep mum? I think we have an ordinary case (for how long ?!) of irresponsible declaration, stated by a political leader, which in the R.M., unfortunately, due to still reasons hard to explain – are spoken by myriads, and no tangible measures are undertaken to set them forth and fight by law.

Normally Mr. Urechean should resort to, and make use of legal provisions to defend his honor and dignity.
Still, over and above. Isn’t Mr. Voronin ashamed of having known of these alleged frauds committed by a mayor, after having acted as president for 8 years, has held virtually absolute power in the R.M. for so long, and now states of this shameful deed as if lamenting over that …

We will see what happens.
