Russia: Suicide bomber kills 2 in Ingushetia, North Caucasus
A suicide bomber in Russia's North Caucasus has struck a local police headquarters, killing two police officers and wounding at least three others in the republic of Ingushetia.
The Russian Interior Ministry says the bomber attacked police headquarters Monday during roll call in the town Karabulak north of the regional capital, Magas.
Authorities say a second explosion a short while later destroyed a vehicle parked near the headquarters. A Reuters cameraman said the remains of the bomber were lying in the roadway in front of the police facility along with debris from the blasts.
More than 50 people in Moscow and the mainly Muslim North Caucasus have been killed and 100 others wounded by suicide bombers in the past week.
Two female bombers killed 40 people and wounded 90 others in Moscow subway stations last Monday.
Separately, two bombers killed 12 people Wednesday in another southern republic, Dagestan. And Sunday, a freight train in the region was derailed by two explosions, but no casualties were reported.
Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov claimed responsibility for the Moscow blasts, and said such attacks would continue.
Russian President Dmitri Medvedev has promised tougher measures against militants and those who assist them.
