Romanian Premier Emil Boc has resigned
Romanian Prime-Minister Emil Boc resigned. The statement was made today during the government session.
“I want to inform you that I have taken the decision to resign in order to temper the political and social situation in the country,” said Emil Boc.
“I want to thank you and wish you good luck,” ended his discourse Mr. Boc.
“It is a good fact for Romania. It’s a victory of all those who have been protesting since the beginning of this year, demanding for change,” said Crin Antonescu, the head of the National Liberal Party, during a press conference.
The Minister of Justice, Catalin Predoiu was named as the acting Premier of Romania.
Jeffrey Franks, the IMF Mission Chief in Bucharest told Reuters that the agreements made will continue despite of the political changes in the country.
"I see no reason necessarily for this to have a material effect on the aid agreement. We have every expectation the agreement will continue," said Mr. Franks.
Emil Boc’s resignation comes after weeks of massive anti-government protests around the country.
