Romanian consular office to start working in Moldovan town by late 2010

Prime Minister Vlad Filat visited the headquarters of a Romanian consular office in Ungheni, western Moldova, the government's communications and press relations department has said.

The prime minister was accompanied by Romanian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Marius Lazurca.

Dumitru-Nicanor Teculescu, the Romanian general consul from Balti, to which the Ungheni based consulate is subordinated, presented to Vlad Filat and Marius Lazurca the building where the office will be opened.

The consulate's headquarters has a surface of 140 square metres; it was re-organized from a private house into a building which meets all the requirements of a consulate. Dumiru-Nicanor Teculescu said that the rooms, including the one where the citizens will submit documents and the administrative bureaus will be furnished and provided with the necessary conditions for good work.

Prime Minister Vlad Filat was informed that, in two weeks at the latest, the building will be made available for use, and the Romanian consular office from Ungheni will start working by late 2010.

Asked by journalists, the prime minister said he is contended with what he saw.

"Step by step, we fulfill what we agreed to do during a visit to Bucharest one year ago," the prime minister said.

The prime minister specified that the consulates from Balti and Cahul (northern and southern Moldova, respectively) started their activity in 2010.

"It is very important that everybody who needs consular services be served quickly and in appropriate conditions. As a matter of fact, I am sure that the Ungheni-based consular office will be as efficient as the other ones, and will provide as qualitative services as the Balti and Cahul consulates," the prime minister said.

Initially, the Ungheni consular office will issue small-distance cross-border movement permits, which are very demanded in this region, taking into account the district's location.

Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca said that the inauguration of the Ungheni-based consular office is another success in the Romania-Moldova bilateral relation.

"In 2010, the bilateral ties have proved maturity in the interests of both countries' citizens," the ambassador said.

Marius Lazurca showed confidence that the sides will fulfill everything they will agree upon.
