Representatives of Tiraspol to JCC refuse to examine holding up of Moldova’s Post Office vehicle in Security Zone

Representatives of Tiraspol and Russia to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) at the July 3 meeting refused to discuss the stopping of the motor vehicle of the state-owned company Moldova’s Post Office by officers of the Transdniestrian customs post in Dubasari town.

The incident happened on July 2 at about 11.00. The vehicle was transporting mail and pensions for residents of the villages that are under Moldova’s control. It was held up at the customs office in Dubasari. Shortly afterward, the JCC co-president on behalf of Moldova Ion Solonenco and the JCC co-president representing Transdniestria Oleg Beliacov took measures to solve the problem, but their instructions were not carried out. The vehicle has not been released yet.

The stopping of the car is a serious violation of the JCC decision of March 1993, which says that the tax and debt collectors of Moldova and Transdniestria can move freely and have the right to bear arms on the territory of the Security Zone.

At Thursday’s meeting, the Moldovan delegation put up proposals for solving the problem, demanding that the money and the car are returned. The proposal that the JCC co-presidents of Moldova, Russia and Transdniestria and representatives of the OSCE Mission and Ukraine should travel to the customs posts in Dubasari to clarify the situation was accepted by the OSCE members and Ukrainian representatives, but was rejected by the Russian and Transdniestrian delegates.

As no consensus was reached, the JCC remembers will continue discussing the subject on July 4.//REPORTER.MD
