Public Media Reform Set as a Priority of New Moldovan Authorities
One of the priorities of the new power in this republic should be a reform of the Teleradio-Moldova (TRM) public company to be aimed at making TRM a real public service broadcaster, the majority coalition deputies stated in parliament today upon hearing that the TRM administration and the Audiovisual Coordinating Council had refused to provide the forum with information about the company's activities.
MP Corina Fusu of the Liberal Party stated the Communists had fully subdued the TRM to their party interests, and the company administration's refusal to show up is an extra proof to that.
MP Leonid Bujor of the Moldova Noastra Alliance said that over the Communist rule years, local citizens were deprived of the right to receive objective information because the company presented and interpreted events in a strongly biased way.
In his words, the new power respects and observes press freedom, but the TRM administration must respect the law and citizens' rights, too.
