Prosecution denies top official ordered fixing EU flag on parliament
The EU flag was fixed on the Moldovan parliament building on 7 April at the initiative of protesters but not following orders by some parliamentary officials, the Prosecutor-General's Office has said following requests by the opposition Our Moldova Alliance (AMN) to interrogate the former head of the parliamentary committee for law issues and immunity, Vladimir Turcan (after the 5 April parliamentary election, Turcan was elected first deputy speaker).
As already reported by Infotag, the Internet portal JurnalTV has recently posted video showing Vladimir Turcan allegedly giving instructions to provocateurs who were preparing to fix the EU and Romanian flags on the presidential administration and the parliament building during the 7 April mass riots against the alleged rigging of the 5 April election.
The Prosecutor-General's Office said that this fact has been checked immediately after the 7 April riots and then additionally, at the request of the AMN.
"Turcan confirmed that he had held talks with representatives of protesters on possibilities of fixing the EU flag on the parliament building. However, that was the initiative of protesters and was accepted in order to calm down the crowd and avoid violence," the Prosecutor-General's Office said.
The prosecution said that this has been confirmed by eye witnesses, including the youths who fixed the flag, as well as by video materials.
According to the prosecution, the video posted by a number of media outlets "has been pulled out of context and misinterpreted".
