Pro-Putin demonstration in Tiraspol

Hundreds of people from Transnistria gathered today in Tiraspol in support of their candidature for presidential elections in Russia, informs DNIESTER.ru. They hope that Vladimir Putin, the current Russian Prime Minister, will win the elections which are to be held on March 4, 2012.

Moreover, demonstrators with Russian citizenship which reside in Transnistria support the decision of the Russian authorities to maintain the peacekeeping forces in the region.

According to the Russia’s RIA NOVOSTI news agency, the demonstration was organized by the Transnistrian Renewal Party. It also adds that over 500 people gathered in support for Putin, despite of the extremely cold weather.

Transnistria is a breakaway region of Moldova which went apart after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
