Pro-European forces in Moldova united before elections
The National Liberal Party and the National Romanian Party of Moldova will be standing for parliament on the ticket of the Acţiunea Europeană [European Action] socio-political movement, as per the Declaration signed by three leaders on Monday night.
AE Chairman Anatol Petrenco interpreted the event as a logical unification of pro-European forces in Moldova.
The three forces indicated in the Declaration that after the April 5, 2009 parliamentary elections they will be working for bringing Moldova into NATO and for converting the Republic of Moldova into a second Romanian state, “in which the Romanian language, the history of the Romanians and Romanian values shall not be suppressed”.
The National Liberal Party leader, independent MP Vitalia Pavlicenco underlined that the NLP and NRP members, to be included into the AE ticket, shall suspend their party membership and their party posts for the election campaign period. And certainly all the AE candidates will be actively criticizing the ruling Communist Party in the run-up to the elections, she added.
The three parties supported the recent appeal by the Democratic Forum of the Romanians of Moldova on immortalizing the memory of poet Grigore Vieru through introducing two essential amendments to the Constitution – on declaring the Romanian language an official language in the Republic of Moldova, and on renouncing the country’s neutrality.
