Private land dispute: Palanca villagers’ flash mob in Chisinau
A group of Palanca villagers, in concert with activists from the Civil Coalition for Democratic Transparent Power, organized what they called “a flash mob “Our Palanca”” near the monument to King Stefan cel Mare in the heart of Chisinau at the apogee of the March 2 commemoration procedure.
The ‘flash mob’ involved 15 or so people, who brought to Chisinau a basket with land from Palanca as a sign that patriots of Moldova, who defended the country's integrity in 1991-1992, shared their blood onto the Palanca soil as well.
The protesters expressed strong dissatisfaction over the Moldovan Government’s actions, and called compatriots to help protect this piece of the Moldovan land. They unfolded a poster that read, “We shall not betray Palanca!”
Action leader Radu Busila of the Coalition believes that to cede the Palanca land under the Odessa-Reni highway to Ukraine would mean to violate one of the fundamental provisions in the Constitution, which says that Moldova is inseparable. Therefore, the signing of the Treaty on Moldovan territory cession is an illicit act that goes contrary to the Constitution.
Busila stated, “The Governments of Moldova and Ukraine are going to sign the Treaty on Palanca land cession to Ukraine already on this March 11. We demand that the Constitutional Court must invalidate the document. This is our land, and we shall not let it be given to another state”.
