Presidential elections in Moldova considered unconstitutional
Chisinau/ Moldova.ORG/ -- The Constitutional Court deemed unconstitutional the December 16 elections because the confidentiality of the vote wasn’t respected. The Parliament’s decision whereby new elections were set for January 15 was also declared unconstitutional, Info-Prim Neo news agency reports.
During the previous elections, on December 16 some deputies showed their ballots in front of the cameras to prove that they have voted for Marian Lupu, the only candidate who ran for presidency. The Court took such a decision following an application filed by Deputy Mihai Godea, who asked the Court to decide on the legality of the December 16 elections.
“The decision clearly says that the entire voting procedure must be secret, from the moment the deputies take the ballot until they throw it into the ballot box,” said the president of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase, according to Info-Prim Neo.
The Parliament will now have to choose another date to elect the president.
