President Vladimir Voronin asks EU to send delegation to Moldova
Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has asked the EU high representative for foreign policy, Javier Solana, to send a delegation to Moldova to investigate the mass protest rallies that took place in Chisinau on April 7, and the following ransacking of the presidential administration and the parliament building.
The issue was discussed by the two officials during a telephone conversation on 10 April, the press service of the president's office has reported.
Voronin said that the delegation is needed in order to inform the EU about what really happened in Moldova, especially after some mass media have been speculating on the issue. Voronin also said that he will do his best to keep the situation under control.
Javier Solana supported Voronin proposal to send an EU delegation to Moldova to investigate the latest events and pledged that the issue will be urgently discussed. The two officials agreed to have a new telephone conversation in a week's time.
