Poll shows Moldovan opposition party most popular
The Communist Party which is now in opposition in Moldova continues to enjoy the highest popularity, being trusted by 39 per cent of citizens, the results of a survey conducted by the marketing and survey company Imas-Inc show.
According to the survey, the second most popular party is the Democratic Party with 33 per cent, followed by other members of the ruling Alliance for European Integration - the Liberal Democratic Party with 30 per cent, the Liberal Party with 28 per cent and the Our Moldova Alliance with 19 per cent.
"Democratic Party's popularity significantly increased, from 7 per cent in March 2009, after it was joined by former Communist speaker Marian Lupu, who is now the most popular politician in Moldova," Imas-Inc director Doru Petrut said.
The survey was conducted among 1070 respondents between 11 and 29 October. The margin of error is 3 per cent.
In a separate report released at 1545, Infotag reported, quoting the Imas-Inc survey, that if an election were held next Sunday, the opposition Communist Party would win 29.3 per cent of the votes, the Democratic Party 12.7 per cent, the Liberal Democratic Party 10.2 per cent and the Liberal Party 9.8 per cent. The parliamentary Our Moldova Alliance would fail to make it to parliament, winning only 2.3 per cent of the votes.
