The disastrous situation in the energy sector of the country becomes a danger to Moldova’s national security and the population would be forced to pay exaggerated tariffs for gas, electricity and heat, the vice president of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Oazu Nantoi said at a news conference on July 9.

According to Nantoi , the Government of Moldova must work out a set of emergency measures aimed at alleviating the pricing policy’s consequences on the population in winter. “The energy security should not depend on the elections and should not be solved during election campaigns,” Natoi said.

The PDM vice president also said that the energy prices rise constantly not only because the import prices rise, but also because there is no efficient system for using alternative energy resources and modern technology for using them.

Igor Klipii, the other vice president of the PDM, stated that no investor will want to make investments in the thermoelectric heating system of Chisinau as long as the charges are fixed by the Chisinau Municipal Council. He said that this should be the task of an institution like the National Agency for Energy Regulation or an organization affiliated to it. This institution should fix an adequate charge and guarantee that the potential investor would make profit from the investment.

According to PDM representatives, there is no transparency as regards the enormous debts of Transdniestria (over 1.6 billion USD) to the Russian gas giant Gazprom and the Cuchurgan Power Plant exports power to Romania also in non-transparent conditions.//REPORTER.MD
