Over 25,000 Moldovans voted abroad by 14:00


As many as 25,509 Moldovans voted abroad within the today's parliamentary polls by 14:00. The figure significantly exceeds the one registered at the 29 July 2009 parliamentary election and the 5 September 2010 constitutional referendum.

The secretary of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Iurie Ciocan, has said that data from the 75 polling stations opened abroad were being processes with more difficulty. Nevertheless, over 25,000 Moldovan citizens voted abroad till 14:00, he said. Of all those who voted abroad, about 12,347 citizens were included on basic lists and another 11,897 on additional lists.

Data put out by the CEC show that 197 Moldovans included on basic lists and another 188 on additional lists voted in Madrid, Spain, by noon. As many as 858 Moldovans voted in Milan, Italy, most on the basis of additional lists. Another 1,100 Moldovans voted in Verona and 700 in Turin. Over 200 Moldovans exercised their right to vote in St Petersburg, Russia. As many as 1,000 people voted in Paris till noon.

The voter turnout in Moldova was 42 per cent by 16:00.
