Osipov: Any federalization options are not acceptable for Moldova
Deputy Prime Minister for Moldova's Reintegration Victor Osipov today met the director of the Centre for International Crisis Management and Conflict Resolution, Stefan Wolff, the government's press service has said.
Stefan Wolff is on a visit to Moldova following an invitation by the OSCE Mission to unveil the conclusions of a scientific research on federalism.
Victor Osipov thanked Stefan Wolff for his interest in Transnistria-related issues. At the same time, he reiterated the position of the Moldovan authorities, who deem as unacceptable any federalisation variants, and lay the observance of Moldova's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity at the basis of an eventual settlement.
The Moldovan deputy prime minister said that he has special respect towards comparative researches in conflict's resolution, as well as the most different and contradictory scientific approaches.
"We think that we will settle the Transnistrian conflict by turning the right bank of the Dniestre more attractive to the residents from the left bank, once Moldova advances on the path of European integration, democracy and prosperity," the deputy prime minister specified.
Stefan Wolff said that he knows the situation in Moldova very well, as he has earlier made a scientific research on the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, southern Moldova. He described as "a practical example for Moldova the model of power transfer which is successfully applied in the United Kingdom, as it allows preserving the state's unitary character, and at the same time, contains compromises based on delegating powers to the autonomous regions."
The participants in the discussion agreed that the Transnistrian conflict needs to be settled as quickly as possible.
