OSCE wants to improve relations between Moldova and Transnistria

The conflict in Transnistria was debated again today in Moldova. Mr. Erwan Fouere, the Special Representative of the Irish Chairmanship of OSCE for Transnistrian conflict had an official meeting with Iurie Leanca, the Moldovan Foreign Minister.

Minister Leanca has appreciated the special interest of the Irish chairmanship in the management of the conflicts in OSCE zone, including Transnistria. The Moldovan official stated that Moldova is interested to develop significant improvements during 2012. He believes that the withdrawal of peacekeeping forces from Moldova’s territory and changing it into a civil peacekeeping force under international mandate will continue to be a headline on the Presidency’s agenda for this year.

The Ambassador Fouere underlined that the Irish chairmanship will take all the necessary efforts to keep a permanent and proficient negotiation in format “5+2”. OSCE will strive to strengthen the trust on both banks of Nistru River. Mr. Fouere has also said that Ireland is ready to give advice on conflict solving issues from its own experience.
