OSCE official visits Moldova today

OSCE’s Knut Vollebaek, the High Commissioner on National Minorities visits Moldova as of today until March 16. His visit is designed to concentrate on issues of language, integration, education and Gagauz autonomy, according to an OSCE press release.

“Vollebaek will specifically discuss the Government’s strategy for the integration of national minorities and assess progress on multilingual education, as well as co-operation between Chişinău and Tiraspol on education-related matters. He will also meet the central authorities in Chişinău and the Gagauz leadership in Comrat to discuss the current situation of the Gagauz autonomy,” informs OSCE Mission to Moldova.

Mr. Vollebaek will also meet with the acting President Marian Lupu, Prime Minister Vlad Filat and some Government statesmen and civil society members from Chisinau and Comrat. The OSCE official will also travel to Tiraspol where he will meet Evgheny Shevchuk, the head of Transnistria.
