No Russian or Ukrainian passports were confiscated when Moldovan bodies were taking legal actions against Dniester residents having no residence permit in Moldova, the deputy head of the OSCE mission to Moldova, Klaus Neukirch, has said.

The Dniester delegation in the Joint Control Commission, a peacekeeping body, earlier said that Moldovan bodies had confiscated the passports of Dniester residents having Ukrainian or Russian passports because they had no residence permit in Moldova. Subsequently, Dniester leader Igor Smirnov did not rule out the possibility of introducing visas for Moldova should it not abandon this practice.

"As regards 'administrative sanctions' for the absence of a residence permit, we would like to point out that some OSCE states annually deport several thousand people having no residence permit. Therefore, we are not going to comment on the fine of about 35 euros which Moldova has demanded from five people in the past three years," he said.
