OSCE acting chairman to visit Moldova


Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca met an OSCE delegation led by the special representative of the Lithuanian chairmanship for protracted conflicts, Ambassador Giedrius Cekuolis, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's (MAEIE) media and public relations department has said.

The two officials exchanged opinions about the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and cooperation with the OSCE in 2011. Leanca told the Lithuanian official that the Moldovan diplomacy will hold active dialogue with the foreign partners in order to advance in the settlement process and turn to account the major political initiatives launched in 2010.

The sides agreed on the need to unconditionally resume the official talks in the 5+2 format, noting that the OSCE plays an important role in this respect. The special representative of the Lithuanian chairmanship emphasized that important issues are set on the agenda of Chisinau-Tiraspol discussions, such as the free movement of people and goods between the two banks of the Dniestre and the renewal of the official negotiations. The diplomats stressed that the resumption of the official negotiations will be a step towards the identification of specific solutions. At the same time, the Moldovan foreign minister confirmed the government's willingness to further promote confidence-building measures meant to create a friendly atmosphere in the conflict settlement process.

Also, the officials discussed a forthcoming visit to Moldova by the OSCE chairman-in-office.
