Nina Shtanski: Tiraspol accepted too much compromise in relation with Chisinau
Transnistria’s head of foreign affairs department, Nina Shtanski states there is no way back and the status of the Transnistrian region cannot be other than the one chosen by people at 2006 referendum, when the majority voted for “the independence of Transnistria and its rapprochement with Russian Federation”. The statement was made for Irish Times.
Moreover, Nina Shtanski believes that the Transnistrian side accepted too much compromise in the framework of 5+2 negotiation process. “It seems that Tiraspol undertakes unilateral actions and this hampers to the atmosphere of confidence we are trying to create during negotiations”, she added.
From the beginning of this year, the Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the leader of the breakaway region Evgeny Shevchuk had several meetings, after which they declared that the relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol are on the right track.
