Nicolae Timofti - AIE's nominee for the Moldovan presidency
Moldova’s Alliance for European Integration (AIE) has nominated a candidate for the presidency. Nicolae Timofti, the head of the Superior Council of Magistracy was designated as AIE’s candidate for the elections which are due to be held on March 16 in the Moldovan Parliament.
Mr. Timofti stated in a press conference that if he will be elected as President, he will represent the interests of all Moldovan citizens and not those of a certain group.
“It is a huge responsibility for me to be up for this position. I will be the President of citizens and not only of a group of people. During my 36-year-long experience as a lawyer, I have represented people’s interests, respecting the legal regulations,” said Nicolae Timofti.
Mihai Ghimpu, the head of the Liberal Party seems proud of the candidate designated by the ruling coalition.
“He is a candidate sent by God. He is a man of law, who worked his whole life with the law, being judge and president of the Superior Council of Magistracy,” said Mr. Ghimpu.
The attempt to elect the President will take place on March 16, 2012. Moldova hasn’t had a President since April 2009.
