Next round of Transnistria talks will be held in Vienna on february 14-15
A next round of informal negotiations on Transnistrian conflict settlement in the 5+2 format [Moldova and Transnistria as the conflicting sides, Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE as international mediators and guarantors; and the European Union and the United States as observers] will be held in the capital of Austria on February 14 and 15.
Out of the seven official negotiators, 4 will participate in such consultations for the first time: Moldova's Political Representative at the Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Affairs Eugen Carpov; Ukraine's new Special Representative at the Transnistrian conflict settlement negotiations Igor Harchenko; Miroslav Lajcak - the European Unio n's new Special Representative for the Republic of Moldova, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia; and a new Special Representative from Lithuania - the country that as replaced Kazakhstan and has assumed the OSCE presidency in 2011.
Transnistria will be represented by its old spokesman - the region's minister of foreign affairs Vladimir Yastrebchak.
According to a document made public by WikiLeaks, Romania has expressed wish to be also present at the negotiating table to take part in the resolving of the protracted Transnistrian conflict.
Addressing the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg last Thursday, Romanian President Traian Basescu expressed regret that his country has not till now become a participant in the Transnistria negotiation process.
