Next parliament should have 6 factions - poll

If a parliamentary election were held in Moldova on the nearest Sunday, only 6 organizations would be able to clear the 4% electoral barrier namely the Communist Party (with 35.3% ballots), the Liberal Democratic Party (19.8%), the Democratic Party (12.5%), the Liberal Party (11%), the Moldova Noastră Alliance (6.5%), and the Humanist Party (4.2%), as per the Vox Populi November 2010 opinion poll carried out by the Moldovan Association of Demographers and Sociologists.

On Friday, Association Chairman Victor Mocanu told a news conference in Infotag that 16% interviewed people were uncertain yet, and 6% refrained from disclosing their political preferences.

"In other words, almost each fifth citizen has not yet made up his or her mind. And the above-mentioned ballot percents were received from the answers of those 78% who know whom they will vote for. Of course, we realize there usually exists a difference between opinion poll findings and a real voting.

The Association Chairman refrained from commenting the last month's poll undertaken by the CBS-AXA Center for Sociological Researches and Marketing, which showed that only 4 parties should win seats in the next Moldovan Parliament - the MCP, the LDPM, the DP, and the Liberal Party.

"Apparently, the two institutions use different polling methodologies, but all the same both polls revealed a more or less same political trend in the republic.

The Vox Populi also revealed that 27% will vote for this or that party out of respect personally to the party leader; 17% will vote for a concrete party, whose ideology and policy they respect; 14% will support party's mighty team, and 5% -- because they share party's or parties' resolution to combat corruption and crimes.

The poll showed that the voter turnout would be 59%. Another 29% said that may be they would go to the polls, 10% -- that, most probably, would not go, and 5% stated they would not go for sure.

The opinion poll was carried out on November 1 through 10, and involved 1,583 adult residents of 65 populated areas in the mainland Moldova. Its statistical error should not exceed plus-minus 2.6%, the pollsters said.
