Newly elected Moldovan President sworn on the Constitution

Nicolae Timofti, sworn in with the hand on the Constitution

The fourth President of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti was inaugurated today. At the event took part more than 500 guests from Moldova and abroad. Mr. President said that he will be the bondsman of the territorial integrity of the country.

He thanked the foreign partners for their interest in the Transnistrian conflict settlement and promised to work hard so the banks of Nistru River do not break-up.

„Being the bondsman of the Constitution, I will firmly act in order Nistru to stop being the separation line,” said Mr. Timofti visibly excited.

He was sworn in with the hand on the Constitution and after that he kissed the national flag.

„I am a happy man and I want every single citizen to say the same and that they are ready to get involved in the development of the country,” the President said.

The Communist Party members did not come to the event, calling the election of March 16 as being illegal.

The election of Nicolae Timofti comes after two and a half years of political deadlock. He was elected on March 16 with 62 votes of the deputies from the Parliament.
