New terrorist attack in Afghanistan, hospital ruined
Elena Vnorovscaia / Chişinău / Moldova.ORG / -- A car bomb attack caused at least 60 deaths at a hospital in Afghanistan's Logar province, local officials say. Civilians were hurt in the blast, some critically. Most of the casualties were civilians. The number of injured has grown up to about 100 people.
Terrorists often target Afghan state employees, for example hospitals, as well as foreign forces.
Local authorities blame the Taliban. But a Taliban spokesman said it did not attack public places, adding the blast was caused by "someone with an agenda".
Provincial official Din Mohammad Darwaish says that the number of deaths can increase as there were people buried under rubble. He says that it was suicide bomber who was driving that car.
"A large number of people had been gathering at the clinic, in Azra district, for weekly treatment, many of them women and children", he mentioned.
"The target of the blast is not clear but what is obvious is that a hospital was attacked and civilians were killed," added Din Mohammad Darwaish.
Currently arrived police and local residents continue to dismantle the obstructions in hope that there are still living people under the ruins.
The attack comes a day after 10 people were killed and 24 injured in a blast in the northern Kunduz province.
