New discussions on the election of the president of Moldova

Dumitru Diacov

By Valeriu Gonta / Chisinau / Moldova.org / -- The member parties of the Alliance for European Integration had a meeting in the evening of January 9 with the Communists Party discussing the ways for overcoming the political deadlock. After hours of discussions, the parties didn’t come up with a solution.

They have had conversations about the way a new president nomination should be made.

“We have crossed the line. New discussions will follow, hopefully tomorrow,” said Iurie Muntean, a Communist deputy, after the meeting.

Dumitru Diacov, member of Democrat Party said that difficult talks will follow. “This dialogue gave us the opportunity to get to know the opposition’s opinion. It is important. I suppose that difficult discussions will follow,” said Mr. Diacov.

The talk will continue tomorrow, January 10.

New presidential elections will be held on January 15. The candidates can register until January 12. The previous attempt to elect a president failed because of the lack of trust from the Communists Party. Moldova hasn’t had a president since April 2009.
