Monica Macovei: People from Transnistria will benefit from visa liberalization with EU
The Republic of Moldova and the European Union are currently under a negotiation process on visa liberalization and free trade agreement (DCFTA). The projects overlap the whole territory of Moldova.
„Both [agreements] cover the whole of Moldova, including the Transnistrian region. This will benefit everyone,” said Monica Macovei, the head of the Romanian delegation within the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Cooperation Committee of the European Parliament. She added that people in Transnistria, regardless of the minority they belong to, will enjoy the advantages of visa liberalization and the DCFTA.
Ms. Macovei is hopeful that the negotiations on the DCFTA started in March 2012 will be ready by the end of 2013.
“It will push and support the Republic of Moldova to adapt its legal and economic structures in order to be able to ensure the competitiveness involved with free trade. It will also attract foreign investment, bring prosperity and foster market competition. And of course, Moldova will be able to place its products on the European market,” claimed Monica Macovei in an interview with the press service of the European Parliament.
The European official wants to see Moldova part of the European Union one day.
“I hope to celebrate the day when Moldova will join the Union with all commitments fulfilled,” Monica Macovei said.
