A political dialog between the governing Alliance for European Integration and the opposition Communist Party concerning repeat presidential election is absolutely necessary, the AEI and MCP leaders reiterated after an unhappy electoral attempt on Tuesday.

The AEI representatives stated the majority coalition will continue dialog with the Communist Party on electing Marian Lupu president.

Moldovan Prime Minister, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said, "We must discuss and then put forward principles, on which the Communists would agree to vote for our candidate".

Moldova Noastra Alliance Chairman, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Serafim Urechean said, "A compromise and consensus can be achieved only through a dialog. We shall agree to sit at a round table with the Communists, even at a square table, to discuss the problem".

And Democratic Party Chairman Marian Lupu said, "Politics is a dialog, a communication, and I guess the governing coalition still has some reserves for invigorating dialog with the Communists. By December 10, we must engage all our reserves".

MCP Chairman Vladimir Voronin also confirmed his party stands ready to continue the dialog, bearing in mind that election of a president is in the interests of the whole society. However, Voronin stressed that with the current configuration of the Alliance for European Integration, the Communists shall not vote for Lupu. Therefore, he stressed, the only way out of the current situation is to create a left-centrist coalition of the Communist Party and the Democratic Party.

And the only person who spoke out against dialog with the Communist Party was Acting President, Parliament Chairman Mihai Ghimpu. He stated that when the Constitution has been amended, the electoral procedure will enable the 53 members of the Alliance for European Integration to elect president - without asking for the Communists' 8 votes.
