As an integral part of the governing Alliance for European Integration, the Democratic Party will be waging a well-thought, weighted foreign policy aimed at further consolidation of Moldova's strivings for Europe, and at ensuring the country's neutrality status and territorial integrity, says the Democratic Party's Declaration.

The DP leaders expressed concern about the speculations around the party's alleged desire to put an end to Moldova's neutrality status, and about the irresponsible policy of some media outlets trying to provoke a confrontation between the new democratic government of Moldova and the Russian Federation.

In the Democratic Party's opinion, neutrality is not just a duty fixed in the Constitution, but is a necessity, particularly in the context of a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict in the interests of all Moldovan residents.

"The wish to live in a united country, without a foreign military presence, proceeding from the current regional geopolitical reality and from the country's domestic policy, is unrealizable without fixing and international recognition of the Republic of Moldova's neutrality status", the Declaration said.

The Democrats presume neutrality is no obstacle to a multilateral cooperation for providing a new configuration of the European security. Nor is neutrality a hindrance to further cooperation within the [NATO] Partnership for Peace Program or to reforming state institutions in charge of national security.

The Declaration said Moldova does not intend to quest for external partners to the detriment of somebody's interests, for only good relations with all partners can provide Moldova with a possibility to become an active and reliable participant in international political dialog.
