Before the end of this week, the governing Alliance for European Integration will put forward an offer to the opposition Communist Party concerning electing president, the only candidate for the supreme post, Democratic Party Chairman MP Marian Lupu has announced at a news conference today.

In his words, these days he has been in constant touch with all the members of the parliamentary Communist faction, except party leader MP Vladimir Voronin, who is enjoying his rest at Karlovy Vary.

“I am hereby undertaking the responsibility of guaranteeing the implementation of the offer put forth to the Communists. I have the backing of the majority Alliance for European Integration, even a legislative backing, if need be to pass a Law on the status of opposition parties”, Lupu said.

The Democratic Party leader said he will never be a part of the dubious practice of selling/purchasing votes. The only good method of convincing the Communists is dialog, and he hopes the Communists will eventually understand that another early parliamentary election will be an evil for the republic, particularly for the populace.

Marian Lupu maintains, in the opposition Communist faction there are “enough people who feel like electing president now”.

He said, in case of an early parliamentary election, the Democrats will run for parliament as a part of an voting bloc – may be together with the incumbent AEI constituent parties, if certainly the Moldovan electoral legislation is amended in a way to permit the formation of such blocs.
