Moldova:Re-elected Chisinau mayor thanks voters for support
Dorin Chirtoaca, the Chisinau mayoral candidate of the junior coalition partner Liberal Party, has thanked voters for support short after the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announced that according to preliminary final data, he was re-elected mayor.
"I thank all those who voted for us and backed us, and did it with confidence in our programme, in our wish to modernize Chisinau municipality, to continue reforms and to create a better life for each and everyone," Chirtoaca said
"We also thank all those who voted for our challenger, this is their option and we respect it. In 2011-2015 Dorin Chirtoaca will continue to be the mayor of everyone," he added.
His Communist challenger Igor Dodon has not yet commented on the outcome of the 19 June runoff election in Chisinau.
According to preliminary CEC data, 367,581 out of 610,258 eligible voters cast their ballots in the capital. Chirtoaca, was favoured by 186,916 voters or 50.6 per cent, whereas Dodon by 182,494 or 49.4 per cent.
