Moldovans residing in Transnistria to vote in Chisinau-run settlements
Moldovans residing in the breakaway Transnistrian region will vote in populated areas situated on the right bank of the Dniester river at the 5 September constitutional referendum, according to a decision taken by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today.
According to a press release by the electoral body, the CEC also took an unprecedented decision to open a special polling station in Chisinau to allow Transnistrian residents who will be in Moldova s capital on 5 September to exercise their right to vote.
In order to ensure security of the voting procedure in the polling stations situated in the security zone, the CEC called on national and international observers and the Joint Control Commission to monitor the peaceful holding of the voting procedure there, the press release said.
The breakaway Transnistrian authorities have refused to open polling stations for Moldovan elections ever since they self-proclaimed their independence from Chisinau.
