Moldovan, US officials discuss ties, Dniester settlement
The Moldovan acting president and parliament speaker, Mihai Ghimpu, met the US deputy assistant secretary of defence for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, Celeste Wallander, in Chisinau on 11 December, the Moldovan Infotag news agency has reported.
Wallander said that the USA supported the Moldovan leadership's efforts to implement democratic reforms.
For his part, Ghimpu stressed the need to sign a bilateral strategic partnership agreement that would step up political dialogue and speed up economic and international security cooperation. He also spoke in favour of granting the USA and the EU status of full-fledged mediators in the Dniester settlement talks, the agency added.
