Moldovan top election body's head elected

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) elected Iurie Ciocan as its chairman.. Stefan Uritu was elected as CEC deputy chairman and Andrei Volintir as secretary.

Two CEC members nominated by the opposition Party of Communists (PCRM), Igor Vremea and Alexandru Semionov, were put forward for the posts of chairperson and deputy chairperson, but they received fewer votes than their counter candidates.

Only the CEC chairman, deputy chairman and secretary work within the commission on a permanent basis, whereas the other six members may have other jobs as well.

The parliament approved the new composition of the Central Electoral Commission on 11 February, after the mandate of the former members ran out in late 2010.
