Moldovan Supreme Court's chairman has been dismissed by Parliament

Chișinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- Following today's Parliament meeting, where the Supreme Court's chairman, Muruianu, dismissal was decided, the former Moldovan Speaker, Liberal MP, Ghimpu, said the decision had taken a long time and he does not believe that the Constitutional Court would have reasons to declare this Parliament decision invalid.
"Thank God this has occurred.

I know some people already walk on the Constitutional Court halls with money bags to restore Muruianu in position, but I'm sure there are fair judges, who will not admit it", Ghimpu said.
He also stated that "it very much depends on the first person in head of such an influential body, who demonstrated he had not learned anything from the communist government system".
However, the former Minister of Justice, Alexandru Tanase, said that "it was better to further maintain this decision of Mr. Muruianu dismissal, taken last year.

I can not know which is the logic of this decision, because I did not take part in it, but I think this could be an important step in reforming the judiciary.

You can not make progress in judicial reform with people who do not have a very honorable past, and here I refer to decisions that were taken and data qualifications in the ECHR.

The current judicial system is a threat to the security of the Republic".
In turn, the Communists say that Muruianu's dismissal from the Supreme Court is merely an attempt to intimidate law enforcement.

"Removing Muruianu from the Supreme Court's chairman office is another attempt to intimidate and frighten the Moldovan judicial system," said the lawyer and Communist MP Sergiu Sirbu.
The Lawyers Union of Moldova claims that the decision regarding Muruianu is correct: "It is a correct decision.

We had our biggest trouble while Mr. Muruianu was chairman of the Supreme Court, because of the decisions he took and the impressive ECHR lost cases.

The lawyers welcome this decision and consider it correct", George Amihalachioaie said for Publika TV.
The political analyst, Anatol Taranu, claims that Muruianu's dismissal was necessary: "In a democratic society certain things would have taken such a turn.

He has already become a symbol of failure to reform the judiciary", chairman of the Center for Strategic Research and Policy Advice "Politicon" said.
Recall that Muruianu was dismissed today, July 5, by the Parliament, at the proposal of a judge of the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Liberal leader, former Moldovan Speaker, deputy Mihai Ghimpu.

They asked to dismiss the magistrate from his position of the Supreme Court's chairman on grounds that he would be involved in politics, after the general elections of June 5.

Muruianu was dismissed on grounds of failure to exercise his duty appropriately.
