Moldovan ruling coalition leaders skeptical about grand coalition with Communists
The leaders of the Alliance for European Integration (AIE) are skeptical about the creation of a grant coalition with the Party of Communists (PCRM).
Communist leader Vladimir Voronin said today that his party would participate in the presidential election only if an apolitical presidential candidate is nominated or if a grand coalition is set up.
The leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Mihai Ghimpu, categorically rejected the idea of a grand coalition. "The PL does not accept a grand coalition with the Communists. I do not want to take responsibility for a government in communist style." Ghimpu described the Communists' conditions as a wish of the opposition to be visible.
The deputy leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Mihai Godea, said that "Voronin's party has the right to wish, but the AIE's option is clear".
The honorary chairman of the Democratic Party (PD), Dumitru Diacov, did not rule out that "the PCRM may vote for a head of state for the good of the Motherland and without any conditions". He added that Moldova has an already formed coalition, on the basis of which the government will be created.
At the same time, both Dumitru Diacov and acting President Marian Lupu specified that dialogue on the election of the president will be held with the Communists.
