Moldovan, Romanian presidents visit Western Moldova in Romania

Moldovan acting President Mihai Ghimpu and Romanian President Traian Basescu today visited Putna Monastery, northern Romania, where they laid flower wreaths at the grave to Moldovan medieval ruler Stefan cel Mare, the presidential press service has said.

The two presidents met Archbishop of Suceava and Radauti, Most Right Reverend Pimen and the superior of the monastery, priest Melchisedec. They also visited the monastery's church and museum.

In the afternoon, the two presidents are to visit Iasi municipality for meetings with local authorities, Archbishop of Iasi, Metropolitan of Moldova and Bucovina, Most Right Reverend Teofan, as well as students of the university Alexandru Ioan Cuza.

Mihai Ghimpu is on a two-day official visit to Romania at the invitation of his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu.
