Moldovan President to a senior Russian official: peacekeepers at Nistru have exhausted their mission
The President of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, brought back into dialogue the issue of military personnel from the Transnistrian region, in the framework of a meeting, held today, July 27th, with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation, Grigore Karasin.
During the meeting, Timofti reiterated Moldova’s position on the need of withdrawal by Russian Federation, according to its international commitments, of ammunition and military personnel that stations on the left side of Nistru. At the same time, the President Timofti declared that peacekeeping forces in the security zone exhausted their mission and should be replaced by a civil contingent under international mandate.
The head of state told Grigori Karasin, who will be visiting tomorrow Tiraspol, that he welcomes the decision of Russian authorities to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau Russian officials’ visits in the Transnistrian region.
